We offer classes on:

Kirtan Yoga or Mantra Meditation workshops: Unwind and set yourself free with melodious mantra meditation, transported by a dream world of exquisite Indian and world instruments. Kirtan is a meditation in call and response style – the leader sings the mantra and the crowd responds, creating a dynamic, uplifting experience for all.

Just like there are yoga postures for the body to relax and strengthen and tone, there are mantras (special sound vibrations found in the ancient yoga texts) that act as a revitalizing tonic for the mind. Using these mantras for meditation brings the mind to rest in a space free from stress and anxiety. The word “mantra” literally means to “free the mind”.

If you’re curious to explore more, then the extraordinary practice of mantra meditation can take you deeper still: come explore and taste the realm of consciousness beyond body and mind – mantra meditation is a natural passage to the spiritual dimension where there is joyful relationship between individual spiritual consciousness and Ultimate Consciousness.

Food for the soul: The consciousness of the cook affects the eater. Nothing beats the taste of food prepared and served in a loving mood. That is why we spiritualize all food cooked at UrbanEdgeYoga. Prasadam, or spiritual food, is food that has been cooked with love and devotion and offered to the supreme origin of all consciousness. The high consciousness imbibed into that food can be directly tasted by the eater. That is the secret ingredient that makes the food here tastes uniquely unlike any other.

veganAnother aspect of prasadam is that it is cooked and offered in a mood of gratitude. We live by the grace of the earth and so we also thank her for providing us with the food we eat. We do not wish to selfishly steal the earth’s resources. So, we offer a portion of the food back to the Ultimate Source; this automatically gives thanks to the earth for her sacrifice. Just like watering the tree at the root nourishes all the branches. An added side-effect of this is that it also removes any bad karma resultant from the killing of the plants we eat. The food here is therefore certified “karma-free”.

So by all means, please enjoy the karma-free, blessed, happy food known as prasadam and If beyond that you want to learn to prepare such food yourself, we welcome you to attend our regular vegan cooking classes with our expert chefs.

Spiritual discussion groups: We pick contemporary topics and issues and present them in the light of ancient Vedic wisdom. Explore essential human themes in our cozy lounge and then top it off with some of Urbanedgeyoga’s delicious cuisine. Ancient yoga texts of India reveal a deep and detailed understanding of human psychology, facilitating the emancipation of the original personality from multiple conditionings. We need to discover who we truly are, beyond induced convictions, acquired identities and false behavioral models that limit our potential and our deepest aspirations.

Bhagavad-Gita workshops: The Bhagavad-Gita is no mere book; in fact it is an ancient yoga text that dates back over 5000 years. Written long ago in the elegant Sanskrit language, it has been translated expertly into English by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the world’s most pre-eminent scholar of Vedic literature in modern times. The teachings of the Bhagavad-Gita cover all aspects of both spiritual and material knowledge. Its origin is a time long ago, a time of profound scientific spiritual wisdom.

The captivating workshops offer an opportunity to delve deeper into the ocean of wisdom contained in the Bhagavad-Gita and relate life experiences to what is written in the ancient Krishna texts. With the open discussion style of the workshop you will have the opportunity to learn how you can apply these teachings to specific life issues – get a fresh perspective on how to deal with even the most difficult challenges.
